So, I was super shocked when my phone buzzed in the middle of the worst day of work I’ve had in a long time to notify me that Amanda over at Amanda’s Book Nook had nominated me for The Blogger Recognition Award and even more shocked and awed when The Girl Who Reads nominated me as well! It really made my freaking day, so thanks so much to both of you for thinking of me! You guys are super wonderful and amazing and thank you for bringing something great to my otherwise horrible day.
This award was originally created by Eve over at Edge of the Night and go her for coming up with yet another way to celebrate bloggers and the blogging community!
- Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
- Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you’ve nominated in the post. Make sure to also attach the award itself! (You can do this by right-clicking, saving, and uploading the image above).
- Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
- Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing!
The original idea for The Desert Bibliophile actually stems back to 2010. I was in my early twenties, fumbling with an idea to express my true love in life: books. However, I wasn’t the smartest when it came to choosing where I hosted my blog and eventually life, work, and other things took precedence over my feeble attempt to write. I didn’t have a ton of followers, if any, and I wasn’t really motivated. It was also during this time I found myself slowly falling into a book slump that would take the next five years to casually pull myself out of.
This latest reincarnation of The Desert Bibliophile has been kicking for almost five months and I’ve already had a lot more interaction with other bloggers than I did before. It’s truly great to feel a part of something, especially when outside of the internet I don’t have any people I can talk to about books and bookish things without looking like a complete crazy person. I’m still not nearly as active as I’d like to be, as I manage three separate locations for my job and sometimes have trouble finding time to finish a review let alone a book from time to time. But, when I’m not trying to keep up with my blog posts I also post a lot of bookish things on my Instagram, to the annoyance of my friends who see books, cringe and then tell me I’m wasting my money. They just don’t get me the way you guys do.
My Piece of Advice
This may seem lame, but don’t give up. I sometimes think back to what kept me from blogging before and realize that I was crazy. I wish I had tried harder and didn’t get down on myself for not posting regularly. I think one of the things people forget is that bloggers, or anyone who creates content any kind on the internet, have lives. While I wish I could be one of those people who finds the time to post daily, I know that it just isn’t feasible for me so I shouldn’t hold myself to insane standards or give up when I feel like I’m failing.
Also, schedule things out. This is only advice that I’ve recently started taking myself. I schedule just about everything else out in my life, so why wouldn’t I schedule my posts or ideas? It also makes it easier to keep myself motivated if I know that today I want to write this review or today I have this tag to post.
