WWW Wednesday (September 16-23)

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Taking On A World Of Words where bloggers answer three simple questions regarding their week in reading.

I have a thing for Donna Tartt. There I’ve said it. Despite the fact that I’ve only ever listened to anything she’s ever wrote in audiobook form, it’s safe to say I really love her writing. I’ve also started all of her books in non chronological order to when they were published, which is very unlike me. I just started this book yesterday and it’s her second novel published back in 2002. The audiobook is read by her and so far I keep picture Bunny’s voice from The Secret History. Also, she’s got a thing for death. I can tell. Also, Tartt looks like she could cosplay Jane Lane from Daria and that’s A-OKAY with me.

Okay, so I may have posted that I started this a few weeks ago on Instagram. I also may have downloaded a new photo editing app on my phone and wanted to try it out and the only thing in front of my was my iPad on which the book is downloaded. You don’t know the truth and you never will. Or you may now know that I just started this and I can’t help but squee after every page-turn as I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen. Is it technically called a page-turn if the pages aren’t technically real? Is it a page-swipe at that point? Or a page-click? Oh! Also, I realized I unintentionally, without out thinking, named my new D&D character Aelin… she’s an elf ranger.

I went on a comic downloading spree and could not be stopped when I found these comics that continue from the original Avatar story line after Aang defeats Fire Lord Oazi. In my mock-professional opinion, Avatar is one of the greatest things to ever grace my television screen, just so long as you completely disregard the abomination that is the live-action movie directed by M. Night Shamlamadingdong. I couldn’t start reading this comic extensions fast enough, I just have so many questions about what happened between the end of The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.

I’ll be honest, I’m struggling through this book. I’m taking a small break from it to read a few things I’ve been dying to get my hands on for a while in hopes of coming back to this with a fresh mind. So far, I’m finding it really horrible and while I’m not very far into the book yet, NOTHING HAS BEEN FREAKING EXPLAINED. For the first time, I think, ever, I have zero idea what is going on in a book. It’s driving me a bit crazy if you can’t tell. Also the main character goes by the name I…and I think it’s pretty safe to say I do not like I. The real question is who names their character I?!

Also, STILL trudging through Dune. At a snail’s pace. One page at a time. The writing is just so pretentious sometimes I have to stop and laugh.

I started the Saga series a few weeks ago and pretty much had to immediately go back and by the remainder of the trade paperbacks currently on sale. This is some of the best comic writing and art I’ve had the pleasure of reading. Despite the whole civil war, forbidden love, murderey-murder parts, I totally want to live in this world. Yeah, I said it.

If you can’t tell, I’ve been doing a shit ton of comic reading, I’ve always been a big fan of comics, but this is my first real adult-like jump away from the typical Marvel and DC realm. Though, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my superhero comics. I’m obsessed. But, it’s really awesome to finally spend the time to check out some other series I wouldn’t have typically even have thought to pick up. The Wicked + The Divine is one of those series that is just so visually appealing and right up my alley style-wise.

I also FINALLY finished Grey. Man, that was tough to get through without laughing at every sexual encounter. I’m starting to think I just don’t take erotic and smutty things very seriously, but it could also be the fact that Grey is an absolutely ridiculous character. And I swear if Ana bites her lip one more time, I’ll personally punch her in the mouth.

ALSO, check out my review of Armada by Ernest Cline here! I read this great book in one night with much thanks to Blogging for Books for giving me a copy to review.

As I mentioned before, I play Dungeons and Dragons with an awesome group of guys. One of the reasons that I was invited to play with them was because two of the members, one of which is the DM, are huge book lovers too. I finally found bibliophile friends off the internet guys! Anyway, they easily put my love of fantasy to shame and have forced upon me an epic book list of *drumroll* epic fantasy. The Name of the Wind is the first book on the list recommended to me by our lovely and talented DM. I can’t wait to start it!
