January Wrap Up

green-jan-wu

This month was a pretty great refresh for me. I constantly make the mistake of letting work and other things that stress out my life take up so much unwarranted time when I could be doing something I love like reading. I’ve made a lot of changes to help me focus more on reading a blogging. I bought a Life Planner with an adorable cactus theme because, hello I love my desert life, and just this simple act has been really pushing me to stay on task better than I have ever before. I’ve always been an organized person, but this has really taken that to the next level.

did start trying to read one book at a time, which didn’t include any reviews I was reading or audiobooks, and sort of failed? I’ve been chugging away through Lair of Dreams for a while now and I’m painfully close to the end. Unfortunately, because of this it kept me from reading ANY of the books on my original January TBR.

On a personal note, my husband and I bought a house in November and it’s finally starting to feel like home. We’re now completely moved in and focusing on the things we want to make better, like building some sick bookshelves in our spare bedroom to convert it into a library/office/extra closet for me. My husband and I got adorable matching tattoos and I simultaneously permanently paid homage to Carrie Fisher, who has always been a major heroine of mine. So I’d say, all in all, pretty good month.

What am I listening to?

Other than books, music is my second love. I, unfortunately, don’t spend as much time listening to music these days thanks to my obsession with podcasts and audiobooks, but when I’m in dire need of a good playlist I know I can turn to Nokkuo. Nokkuo is a minimalist design independent clothing started by a few friends of mine, with a collection launching in spring of this year. They aim to provide comfortable clothing for explorers of the unknown. On top of some awesome designs coming our way, they are my go to music exploration and provide some pretty rad playlists. Recently they came out with a best of January playlist which you can listen to here. I implore you to check it and them out.

I am obsessed with this picture of my three bandmates! It’s rare to find a photo of the three of them together while we’re playing a show, let alone without me ruining the picture with an unwarranted hair flip. You can check us out on facebook here.

How was your January?

January TBR

january-1

Man, oh man. I know it’s only been 2017 for roughly two days, but I am so glad to have 2016 in my dust. It was such a crazy year of ups and downs. I still have a bit of emotional whiplash from just surviving the year in the condition that I did. Which is to say, incredibly sick. I’m now somewhere in week two of an insane cold and overdosing myself with Emergen-C and Airborne just trying to kick it.

But, even despite my current sickness, I’m so glad to be done with 2016, not just because of how many celebrity deaths there were or the change of political climate in America, but because I really had a rough reading year. While I had planned on reading upwards of 100 books in 2016, which I surpassed the year before, but I ended up barely hitting the halfway mark. I’m hoping to turn that around and really hit this next year running…or reading…maybe both. But, let’s not get too crazy.

Here’s my January 2017 TBR!

January Wrap Up!

Jan2016

I have always had fond memories for January. It’s the beginning of a new year and full of some many possiblities. Of course, most of these possiblities usually end with me abandoning my New Years’ resolutions withing the first ten days of the month. But, I tried right? One of my resolutions was to read one book at a time instead of the constant amount of around four or five that I’m usually reading. I made this mistake by starting off the year with The Name of the Wind, which if you’ve never seen a physical copy of, it’s rather long. And of course, since I for some reason decided I wanted to start of the year with this book, I also didn’t have as much time to read as I normally do. Hence why, I’m still reading this book. But, even despite that, I had prior commitments reading-wise, so I definitely went back on my resolution pretty quickly.

January was a really great reading month for me, despite having not finished The Name of the Wind yet. My favorite was definitely Carrie Brownstein’s amazing memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, but followed closely by Carry On and Level Up.

December Wrap Up!

December

This month was possibly one of the worst working months I’ve ever had of my life. It was my first end of year managing three separate store locations and nothing, I REPEAT NOTHING, went according to plan. When it came to reading, this was a pretty slow month for me, in no thanks to my extremely stressful work month. I had a fairly busy beginning of the month, but haven’t gotten much done towards the end. Here’s to hoping that 2016 brings everything full circle. Happy New Year everyone!

My favorite book of the month was probably 2AM at the Cat’s Pajamas. This book was really magical for me. It was a constant page turner. I really loved how surreal it was and the amount of characters that were really captivating.

I’m really happy with how many books I read this year. It’s been by far the most amount of books I’ve read in a long time, which is exciting to me given how much I love reading. This year I finally made time to read and that’s all been thanks to starting this blog almost a year ago.

November Wrap Up!

November

I know everyone is saying this, but I seriously can’t believe that it’s December. Where the hell has 2015 gone? It’s just insane to think that the year is almost over. I’m a little bit in deniable because the end of the year means I can expect even more work for me to do in the next month to prepare for the new year. Which in hindsight is not super exciting.

This month was pretty okay for me! I had bought a bunch of new graphic novels for my birthday in September, but didn’t really have the time to devote time to them until now. I was super excited about getting the first volume of the complete Runaways collection. The local comic book shop owner totally hooked me up with it knowing that I love the series. That’s the super nice thing about buying from your local businesses, the more they get to know you the better service you get. BUY LOCAL IF YOU CAN DAMMIT. /psaannouncement

My favorite book this month was The Soul Summoner by Elicia Hyder. I reviewed Hyder’s book for a book tour and ended up obsessed with this book. I seriously can’t wait until the next book in the series. Elicia is also super awesome and I’ve loved the interactions I’ve had with her on twitter. I definitely recommend following her if you don’t. Also! If you buy a copy of The Soul Summoner or The Bed She Made from her website she’s signing them. That’s right folks! Autographed paperbacks!

October Wrap Up!

Okay, seriously, hold up. Where the hell has this year gone? How is it already November? Why do I feel sudden anxiety for the fact that Christmas is right around the corner? Even worse, what am I’m going to cook for this year’s family Thanksgiving dinner?! Excuse me while I breathe sporadically into this paper bag I have just lying around next to my desk. Also, I’m craving pizza. But, like pizza bites.

What I’ve Read This Month

This month was pretty successful for me reading wise! Though, I’m really turned between Queen of Shadows and The Martian as my favorite read of the month. They both were just too good for words. Also, go see The Martian movie. DO IT.

September Wrap Up!

June

The last couple months have been a little weird for me. While I’ve been reading fairly consistently, I haven’t had the most motivation to blog about the books I’ve been reading let alone talk about the books I had read. I’m not sure if my resurgence of interest back into comic books is to blame or just my pure sense of laziness. Either way, I’m finally getting back into my groove. I feel like Stella when she got her groove back.

What I’ve read This Month

Like I said, I really stepped up my comic game in the last couple of months and have gone so far as to download an ungodly amount of comics onto my iPad that should keep me fairly preoccupied for the next six months or so. There just isn’t enough time in the day to read and enjoy everything.
